Who We Are

We are a national alliance of renters working to shift the balance of power between renters and corporate landlords to guarantee that renters are able to live with dignity. Housing can no longer be used as a wealth building toy for super rich corporate landlords, real estate developers and hedge fund managers.

Our Values

Leader-Full

We believe that extraordinary things can happen when ordinary people come together. As such, those directly impacted by the work should be the ones to provide guidance, vision and other forms of leadership to win real improvements in their lives.

Solidarity

True solidarity emerges when we come together for a common purpose against a common target. Although the target may not necessarily impact us directly, it is our common purpose and commitment to mutual support that allows us to take action together and understand our deep interdependence.

Integrity

As a movement, network, and individuals, we must stay rooted in our common purpose and goals. Even in disagreement and struggle, we must adhere to our principles, act courageously, compassionately and in service of each other and our shared goals.

Transformative

As much as we seek to fundamentally change the way our society treats renters, so must we work to change ourselves. We must strive to put the collective ahead of the individual, as we work together and embody the change we wish to make in our community.

Inclusivity

This is a space open to all renters. As such, we want to ensure that all renters feel empowered, supported and above all, respected across any lines of difference. Our work is intersectional and so we welcome all tenants to come as they are and feel safe in doing so.

Housing belongs to the people that live in it.

Housing should be treated as an essential element of life readily available to all people, like air and water. A stable, safe and affordable home lays the foundation for a meaningful life, a connected neighborhood, and a thriving community. The current reality is that Black and brown people who have lived in city centers and other gentrifying areas are being priced out of the places that they have called home for years. Tenants have taken bigger and bolder action because lawmakers in most of the country have left tenants to fend for themselves. It’s time for us to make sure that everyone can build their life on a strong foundation.
